Basic Life Support (BLS)
Basic Life Support (BLS) is a foundational clinical skills course designed to equip medical students and healthcare professionals with the knowledge, psychomotor skills, and clinical judgment required to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies. The course emphasizes early identification of cardiac and respiratory arrest, high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), effective airway management, and timely use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in both adult and pediatric populations.
Through a structured, competency-based learning model, learners will progress from core theoretical principles to applied decision-making using interactive case scenarios, visual demonstrations, and formative assessments with feedback. The course integrates evidence-based guidelines with real-world clinical context, reinforcing team dynamics, patient safety, and professional responsibility during emergency response.
Upon completion, participants will demonstrate the ability to:
-
Perform high-quality CPR according to current international standards
-
Assess scene safety and patient responsiveness
-
Activate emergency response systems appropriately
-
Provide effective ventilation using basic airway adjuncts
-
Operate an AED safely and efficiently
-
Adapt BLS interventions for adult, pediatric, and infant patients
-
Function effectively as part of a resuscitation team
This course is designed for use within a Learning Management System (LMS) environment and supports blended learning, self-paced study, and institutional training programs. It is appropriate for undergraduate medical education, allied health programs, hospital onboarding, and continuing professional development.
